The installation comes from a rough and severe context, given by the massive stillness of the dam and the unavoidable memory of the Vajont Tragedy. One of the feelings people have once he arrived in this area is that everything is static, motionless. This feeling combined with the silence surrounding the dam, inevitably lets the mind travel, linking this place only to the remembrance of the Tragedy.

The project aims to subvert this state of silence and inertia, livening up this place and this concrete monument by using water, symbol of life and flowing of time since ever.
The idea is to create a perpetual water flow, running along the dam’s wall, calm but uninterrupted, creating an affect of vitality and erasing the stillness of this huge concrete wall. The dam will than transformed into an interactive object, and will no longer be a great tombstone, but a living wall to touch, to dip a hand into it, to watch while pouring. 

Technical specifications:
A pre-holed tube will be installed at the height of the “line” (level of the water on 9th October 1963), covering the entire length of the dam, hooked to the parapet on the dam’s crowning (no need for suspended construction site). With a simple circuit of pumps and vertical pipelines, the installation will reuse the same water, without environmental impacts.

L’installazione si inserisce in un contesto crudo e severo, dato dalla massiccia fisicità statica della diga e dal ricordo inevitabile della tragedia del Vajont. Una delle prime sensazioni che si hanno appena arrivati e’ che tutto sia fermo, immobile questa sensazione insieme al silenzio che circonda la diga fanno inevitabilmente viaggiare la mente di chi osserva; legando questo luogo solo ed unicamente al ricordo della tragedia.

L’opera si pone l’obbiettivo di sovvertire questo stato di silenzio e staticità, e di ravvivare questo luogo e questo monumento di cemento con l’utilizzo dell’acqua, che da sempre rappresenta la vita e lo scorrere del tempo.
L’idea è di creare un flusso d’acqua continuo che scorre calmo ma costante lungo la parete della diga, creando un effetto “vivo” e cancellando la staticità di questo immenso muro di cemento. La diga verrà dunque mutata e resa interattiva, non più un enorme lapide, ma un muro “vivo”, con il quale interagire: toccarlo, bagnarsi le mani, osservare l’acqua scorrere.

Dettagli tecnici:
Verrà installato un tubo preforato alla quota che teneva l’acqua nel bacino il 9 Ottobre 1963, lungo la larghezza totale della diga, agganciandolo al parapetto della diga stessa (senza bisogno di cantiere sospeso); con un semplice circuito di pompa e tubazione verticale, si riutilizzerà la stessa acqua in modo continuo e senza sprechi.
